IT NEVER RAINS FOR TUCOSWA

MANZINI – The police have again stopped another meeting that was to be hosted by the deregistered Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA).

In what could be described as a déjà vu to a scenario that occurred on February 28 at the SNAT Centre, police denied some members of the trade union entry to the premises.

While those who were inside were told to vacate the place, others were literally pushed out.
At around 9:30am, about 50 plain clothes police officers invaded the premises and ordered everyone out.

According to TUCOSWA President Quinton Dlamini, they were preparing for the commencement of their meeting when the police walked into the hall.
“They immediately occupied vacant seats, and told us to leave because they were here to stop the meeting,” said Dlamini, showing journalists a picture of the officers.

He took the picture with his cellular phone.
At this point, Dlamini said some members of his organisation took pictures of the activities inside the meeting place.
This seemed to anger the officers; Dlamini alleged that some officers pounced on those taking pictures, demanding that they should be deleted.
Dlamini said a scuffle ensued between the police and TUCOSWA executive members.

why does tucoswa hold these meetings when they know very well that they are not registered and there's nothing wrong with what the police did. they should wait until they are fully registered.

S.Q I'm tempted to respond to your ignorance displayed above.... TUCOSWA can't wait for the registration that will never come. It needs to operate as of yesterday and the move to stop its operations is meant to destabilise it. Ukhulumisa kwemuntfu longaphili laswatini nalongati kutsi Tucoswa uyini umelele bobani. Freedom of association is guaranteed in the constitution and no-one has a right to call of a meeting like that of Tucoswa.
