FREE BEAUTY PRODUCTS AS TRUCK BURSTS INTO FLAMES
MBABANE – Residents of Makholokholo looted loads of cosmetic products after a truck from Mozambique overturned and burst into flames yesterday.
The truck with Mozambique registration plates was loaded with cosmetic products and it overturned near Makholokholo along the Ngwenya-Mbabane freeway at around 3pm. Residents who were first on the scene said they suspected that the river failed to negotiate a corner and lost control of the truck. Beauty products ranging from lotion, hair sprays and lotions, body sprays and lotions, roll-on deodorants and car cleaning sprays were littered on the ground.
A resident who was first on the scene, Bheki Dlamini, said the truck’s rear tyres were first to catch flames and it is suspected that this was due to braking.
Traffic came to a standstill as Fire and Emergency Services personnel tried to extinguish the huge balls of flame caused by the exploding perfumes, while paramedics rushed the driver of the truck, who escaped with minor injuries, to hospital.
The driver, of Mozambique origin, was retrieved by members of the public who were attracted by a loud bang when the truck overturned. Dlamini said they found the driver trapped inside the truck and they helped him out, but could not do anything with the flames that had already started at the back of the truck. He said they stopped the truck driver from going back to the truck as he wanted to take his personal belongings including money and Identity documents.
