UNION INDUSTRIAL LAYS OFF ALL EMPLOYEES

MANZINI – More woes will befall  Union Industrial Washing (PTY) Ltd employees as Tex Ray Group of Companies is set to implement major lay-offs that will affect all the about 1 200 workers.


This is contained in a notice dated March 2, 2015 and the subject is marked as ‘notice of lay-offs in terms of Regulation 17 (1) and (3) (a) of the Regulation of Wages (Textile and Apparel Industry) Order 2012’, which was issued by the Tex Ray Group of Companies management to the workers. It is worth noting that Union Industrial Washing is the second biggest firm under the Tex Ray Group of Companies after the closed Tex Ray Factory.


“It is with deep regret that the company hereby notifies all its employees in the factory that due to circumstances which are beyond our company’s control, the company will be forced to lay off all of its workers in the company,” reads part of the notice.
The company said the major cause of the lay-off, was due to its failure to secure certain orders, which are very crucial and critical to its continued operations.


It further stressed that it was anticipated that all the employees in the factory would be affected by the lay-offs.
The coming lay-offs are planned to be in two periods, for two groups, with the first group being laid off for a period of 14 working days starting from March 17, 2015 to April 7, 2015. They would resume work on April 8, 2015.


The company said the departments that would form group one would include G1, G3, G5 and G7. Other departments are H1, H3, H5 and H7, including packing, stores, mechanic and cleaning. “Group two will be laid-off for 14 working days from April 1, 2015 to April 23, 2015 and they will resume work on April 24, 2015.
