MBABANE – John Gwebu, the head teacher of Mbabane Central High School wants the Industrial Court to set aside a transfer from the school to Fonteyn High School.

In a letter dated February 13, 2015, the Teaching Service Commission (TSC), informed Gwebu that he had been transferred.
In the court papers Gwebu said being transferred to Fonteyn would be similar to a demotion as the school did not have a house to accommodate him.

He stated that he had a big family and that he was looking after orphaned and vulnerable children (OVCs).
Gwebu said for the past seven years, there were many problems at the school but they had since been resolved. The head teacher also stated that he was not accorded valid reasons to warrant a transfer.

He told the court that on February 3, 2015, he was invited to appear before the TSC through a letter which did not specify any reason for him to be summoned.

He stated that when he presented himself before the commission,  he was shocked to learn of the ‘unplanned’ transfer.
Gwebu stated that he objected to the transfer because of the manner in which it was carried out.

“I made it clear to the commission that I resisted being transferred to an unnamed school around Mbabane without any operational rationale being divulged to me,” he stated.

He submitted that in the terms and conditions of employment, he was entitled to a government house.
