MBABANE – At least 10 senior managers at the Swaziland Television Authority (STVA) have had their employment terminated.

They include the long-serving Lavumisa Dlamini, who became popular for cultural programmes.
The 10 have been served with letters informing them that their employment with the television station will come to an end come March 31, 2015.

This publication has learnt that the managers are currently engaged in negotiations with the station’s authorities in respect of payouts and pensions.
It has been established that the termination of the employment of the 10 managers, some of who have been with the station for about 15 years, is a result of the station’s restructuring exercise.

The station, whose head honcho is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Austin Bongani Dlamini, developed a strategic plan which contained a turn-around strategy in its build up to the King’s Vision 2022.
An inside source said in the turn-around strategy, the Board of Directors discovered that a number of positions were duplicated and needed to be abolished.
This has resulted in the managers being served with the letters of termination of employment.

It was also discovered that the managers were earning way higher than what was provided for in the Public Enterprise Unit Circular No. 4 of 2013/14. The circular spells out salary grades for employees of public enterprises.
It also stipulates that executive managers should earn between E340 000 to E414 000 per annum.

Total pay packages in this case were expected to include basic salary, all benefits, allowances and gratuity.
A number of the affected managers confirmed that they were individually served with the letters terminating their employment about a week ago, but refused to comment.
In the letters, they were told that they may re-apply after completion of the restructuring process.

It's about time we change the media industry in Swaziland. Most of the countries in world are so developed because of their media. In Swaziland we have people who are willing and able to portray a character but have been shuttered because no opportunities were laid for them. Its time we make history.
I myself am a script writer and my script are good but lake equipment to but them into action. Acting is my passion. I'd also like to be part of the new improved station.

Siyabonga Makhabane would need to improve his grammar to convince me that his 'script are good' (sic) he has singular and plural mixed up here. In general I support his need to promote local talent and content.
