PUPIL (29) WHO GOT MERIT DENIED SPACE
MBABANE – A pupil who excelled in the Swaziland Primary Certificate (SPC) exams has been denied a place in Form I, because of her age.
Lydia Nakuze (29), who obtained a Merit Pass in the exams, has been told that she wouldn’t be able to enrol because of her age.
Nakuze was among nearly 21 000 learners last year who passed the Grade VII examination but today, she will not be joining them on their first day of secondary school.
She approached some of the country’s leading schools for a chance to be admitted to Form I but her age was cited as the main reason she could not be accepted.
Nakuze named the schools that she approached during the interview, however, there was no comment obtained from the schools by the time of going to press last night.
The Rwanda-born mother of three, speaking during an interview yesterday, said the only reason she enrolled for Grade VII was so that she could proceed to Form I.
Sebenta
Nakuze was among 28 other Sebenta National Institute pupils who sat for the examination and passed.
Sebenta National Institute provides adult education to mainly matured learners who, for some reason, did not have an opportunity to study at formal schools.
The institute only provides learners with upper primary education.
“I have now given up because it is too late to apply,” said Nakuze.

Every human being has a right to education, no matter the age.
I really thought we were in some support of "Education for All" but it seems labanye bantfu solo abangeni emshineni.
Thanx.
