‘WE WERE DEMOTED - STANDARD BANK MANAGERS
MBABANE – The three Standard Bank Swaziland managers who are currently embroiled in a court battle with the bank over their future employment alleged that they have been demoted to do clerical duties.
Phumzile Magagula, Aldona Lapidos and Mandla Nxumalo are employed as accounts executives in the Corporate and Investment Banking Division.
These are the managers who allegedly witnessed a sex scandal between a senior manager and a staffer during an internal staff party in 2012.
Last year, the Industrial Court referred the case to oral evidence for determination of whether they (three managers) resumed their duties as per the court order of July 2014.
The court found that it was not clear from the evidence whether the three did resume their duties following the court order.
They argue that the bank did not reinstate them.
One of the managers, Nxumalo, yesterday informed Industrial Court Judge Nkosinathi Nkonyane that instead of being reinstated, they were demoted.
He was being led in evidence by Zweli Shabangu from Magagula Attorneys.
Nxumalo informed the court that they were demoted to do the KYC (Know Your Customer) duties, which include confirming whether a customer was still using the same details he or she provided when opening an account.
“Although these duties were under my portfolio, it does not need one to have qualifications to perform them. From the date the court order was issued, we have not been given any other duties except the KYC, which is lesser job,” Nxumalo stated.
