MBEKELWENI – Politicians, businessmen and school boys who are members of regiments participating in the ongoing weeding of royal fields stand to receive a certain token (imbasha) at the end of the exercise.

This will happen when His Majesty the King rewards the warriors for their excellent work in weeding the royal fields.
This usually happens when the King disperses warriors, which is expected to happen in a few days.

Based on what His Majesty dished out to regiments who participated in the event last year, where chiefs, for example, were paid at least E1 500 each and the rest about E200, the warriors are in for a treat as the stipend could increase. Last year, the King also gave out gifts in the form of fresh meat packages and calendars among other freebies.

Lutfwacula Fakudze, leader of the regiments said as usual, His Majesty had prepared something for members of the regiments (emabutfo) at the end of the event.

He asked not to disclose the type or nature of gifts but said they were there, waiting for regiments at the end of the event. He was interviewed on Friday morning at Enkembeni royal fields at Mbekelweni. This is where he supervised the work of about 500 members.

He said he could not disclose the gifts because they were the king’s prerogative. Fakudze was happy about the huge turnout in the weeding exercise which was expected to last for two weeks.

He said the gifts were a token of appreciation from the king to his people.  “Lena yimbasha yekutsenga insipho yemabutfo (this is a token to buy soap for regiments).”

He said the event was a continuation of the Incwala national ceremony, which started around November last year.
