MATSAPHA - A number of His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) staff members will be affected as major transfers are coming on Monday.

The transfers were announced by HMCS Commissioner General Mzuthini Ntshangase during the end-of-year party of senior Correctional Services officers that was held at HMCS Staff College yesterday.

“In the issue of transfers, they are coming on Monday. On the day I am going to call upon those who will be affected to discuss the process.
“The transfers are supposed to be carried out as our Constitution stipulates.”

“When we transfer an officer, it does not mean we are punishing him/her but it means that we have found that his/her skills can add value to the new department or station,” the commissioner general said.

He said the presence of His Majesty King Mswati III, who is Commissioner in Chief, during the ceremony, encouraged them as it was a sign that he was supporting the organisation.

Centres

“On that note, our facilities have become centres of excellence as they do not only benefit the inmates and officers but also community members, who come to learn to get employed outside the institution. A person does not have to offend the society and be in a Correctional facility in order to learn the formal, non-formal and informal education as well as to be skilled in different kinds of vocational programmes,” he said.

Some of the skills that are acquired at HMCS facilities are plumbing, electrical wiring, farming and tailoring among others.
The commissioner general said the department has also partnered with a number of organisations, which include faith-based organisations, traditional leaders and community-based. He said the partnership benefited the service in many ways.
