SWAZI KILLED BY TRAIN IN DURBAN
MANZINI – A drinking spree ended tragically when a Swazi man was crushed to death by a train in South Africa, while another had three of his limbs severed on Friday night.
Linda Mavimbela is said to be currently fighting for his life in hospital after losing both arms and a leg in the horrific accident. The two men are said to have been sound asleep on the railway track when the train ran them over.
The accident occurred at a place called Kwa-Santi, Pine Town in South Africa. A source close to the matter said the two were from enjoying a night out at a nearby famous drinking spot when the unfortunate incident occured.
It was said that along the way to their house, the two men came across a group of men, who they suspected to be robbers and after being convinced that the men wanted to rob them, they ran off into a dark alley with the group of men in hot pursuit.
It was revealed that, although they were able to outpace the suspected robbers and managed to hide, they were exhausted from the frantic running and opted to rest for a while on the railway track.
“Due to their drunken state, the short rest became a deep slumber and they failed to even hear the loud sound of the train’s horn as it approached,” the source said.
“The train ran them over and Simphiwe Dlamini was crushed to death and Linda Mavimbela had both his arms and one leg chopped off by the speeding train.
He is currently in a critical condition in hospital in the neighbouring country,” the source said.
Both men are said to be from Mpolonjeni in the Lubombo region. It was gathered that Simphiwe, who died in the tragic incident, had been living in South Africa for about four years while Mavimbela had been there for at least five months. They were working for a truck workshop in Pine Town, Kwazulu Natal.
Majahonkhe Nkambule, another Swazi employed in Pine Town and residing in the same location with the two, confirmed the incident and said one of the deceased person’s sisters came on Sunday to visit his house after being called by the police.
Meanwhile, Sanele Dlamini, another Swazi who stays in the same flats where the victims lived, also confirmed the matter.
He mentioned that never had he seen a horrific accident than what they saw when they went searching for their friends, who had not returned from the local beer hall.
“His body particles were smeared along the railway track and we knew that he died instantly, while the other is fighting for his life in hospital as the train chopped off his arms and one leg,” Sanele said.
