Of the graduates, 600 were Swazis.
The rest were from Lesotho and Botswana.
The event was hosted at the college’s Matsapha campus.
It was a double celebration for the IDM.

Celebrated

The college celebrated 40 years of existence.
The event, themed ‘40 Years of Effective Management Development: Looking back and sustaining the momentum,’ saw scores of people, who included graduates and their families, descend to the Matsapha campus for the graduation ceremony that lasted about five hours.

The students from the three countries graduated with diplomas and certificates in such fields as Library Science and Information Management, Records Management, Computer Science, Human Resource Management, Education Management and Project Management, among others.
Among the students, was Rafael Hamunyela, Commissioner General of the Namibia Correctional Services, who graduated with a Diploma in Public Administration and Management.

Hamunyela, who is aged 45, was accompanied by his wife.
The Diploma in Library Science and Information Management course was very popular among Swazis as 40 of them graduated on it.
In some of the other streams, 184 candidates from the three countries, who graduated with a Certificate in Records Management, 324 graduated with a Diploma in Human Resource Management, 123 graduated with a Project Management Diploma certificate.

Addressing the gathering, Paul Dlamini, the acting Prime Minister, said government was elated to see so many people from the three countries earning their qualifications.
He said the certificates meant the graduates would contribute to their countries’ economic development from the knowledge they gained from their learning.

Jobs

“I have looked at the courses you are graduating on. They are all entrepreneur-related and they would help you and your countries create jobs,” he said.
He also said government valued the relationship between the three countries, which was that of aligning their development with education.

He mentioned that most of the courses the students graduated in were in fields that had been identified as priority areas by the public and private sector, as the third focal area mentioned in His Majesty’s Government Programme of Action 2013-2018.

Congratulations to all the IDM graduates from a 1981- 1983 Canadian faculty member. It is wonderful to see that IDM continues to be a significant factor in the development of the management skills of the region.
