MBABANE – Finance Principal Secretary (PS)Khabonina Mabuza has been demoted to Under Secretary in the Ministry of Health.

During her tenure as Finance PS, Mabuza entered into controversy when she revealed in Parliament that about E200 million had gone missing at the Ministry of Finance.
Mabuza made this statement before the Public Accounts Committee.

However, she changed tune a few days later after the matter started creating debate in various platforms.
She has been replaced by Bheki Bhembe, who was also working in the Ministry of  Finance.

Deputy Prime Minister Paul Dlamini made this announcement alongside that of the appointment of Makhosini Mndzawe into the position of Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
Mndzawe takes over from Cyril Kunene who is now principal of SIMPA.

Bhembe was present when the announcements were made but he requested not to say anything.
Mndzawe could not be reached.

The reasons for these changes were not stated during the press conference that was held at Cabinet at 10:22pm yesterday. Present during the meeting was Attorney General Majahenkhaba Dlamini, Public Works and Transport Minister Lindiwe Dlamini, Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala and Secretary to Cabinet Mbuso Dlamini.

Mabuza said she was not aware of the changes when she was called last night.
“I have no comment on the matter,” she said.
Kunene’s cellphone rang unattended when an attempt to have his comment was made.

I was of the impression that senior appointments or demotions of civil servants like these are supposed to be announced by the substantive Prime Minister. This is not the case here. Are we to read that the PM has lost all power and influence? National medals were conferred on people in the absence of the PM, ad now this.I don't know if people understand this is public humiliation for the PM even when some people may think he deserves it.
