POLICE COMMISSIONER IS A MAN OF INTEGRITY

Sir

In response to the letter as appearing in last weekend’s publication of the Swazi News, we again would like to state our position as we previously did in May. This was the letter to the Swazi News Editor posted by an individual under the pseudonym ‘Retired Concern’.

First of all, we wish to thank the writer for his or her merited compliments to the National Commissioner of Police that he is a man of great integrity, intelligence and a hard worker.
Coming to the issue of restructuring, we wish to advise the writer that the exercise is ongoing and it is misleading to state that things are at a standstill in the organisation. Accordingly, the leadership of the Royal Swaziland Police Service does not need to refer to any other party or individual as the organisation is charting its own way forward guided by its mandate and vision.

The writer also poses a question on why it takes a year to promote a person in the police organisation whatever that means. For his or her information, however, we wish to state that promotions are effected according to an existing Promotion Policy and are, dependent on the availability of vacancies which are normally created by various staff attrition factors. Other Promotional vacancies arise due to new posts created in line with organisational growth and development processes. As for the issue of the alleged comments from people that the police service is supposedly at a ‘stand still’ because it is led by a retired executive who are on contracts, our view is that such comments are disrespectful and mischievous.

In the first instance, these officers are appointed on the basis of their unparalleled experience and expertise in policing. They continue to serve The King and the country with great selflessness and loyalty.  They are also visionaries who continue to contribute immensely to the growth and development of the police service.

In ending, we wonder whether the writer is indeed a retired officer or a member of the Retired Police Officers Association, because if he was one, he would be privy of what is going on with regards to plans to develop the organisation. If he or she is not a member as we suspect, he or she is urged to join the association to avoid writing letters from uninformed and fact barren position.
