JEALOUS PEOPLE THE ONES HINDERING DEVELOPMENT

I am very concerned about people in our communities who preach development and at the same time prevent it from taking place. It is very bad if those people are the ones serving in the committees tasked with foreseeing and ensuring such development, like it happens in my home area.

Once some people are in power, they turn to abuse the very people who put them into those positions. In most cases, it is women chairing such committees who fight personal interests at the expense of community members. Sometimes they do it out of jealousy. Those women have a tendency to cling onto power, taking advantage of the gullibility of the community members who turn them into small gods.

Those people tell us we cannot get natural water from dams constructed from rivers into our houses, claiming we are wasting water.

Protected

How can that be possible because water inside a house is much protected than the taps out there, where you sometimes find the taps open and water flowing day in and day out. When you have water inside a house, I view it as development from the past hurdles where one goes a long distance to fetch water.

We have sickly people these days who need water next to them because they have no one to help them. Even old people and children need to have water near them, as long as the situation permits. But in rural communities, once you build yourself a house, connect it with electricity and buy pipes to provide yourself with water, you become an enemy.

It is very bad. The committee members make sure that they prevent you from accessing that water or they create bad stories to degrade your image. This is why most people migrate to towns and cities because such rivalries lead to witchcraft. They don’t want gardens yet government preaches that we make them to provide ourselves with food (vegetables).
