KONTSHINGILA’S NEWBORN BABIES

Sir,

Recently, we learned of the good news that a new Chief of KoNtshingila has been unveiled. For more than 20 years, the area had no chief.

KoNtshingila is a vast grassland about 15 kilometres south-east of Hlatikhulu. With a history of tragic events taking place in this community’s chieftaincy lineage, the late Chief Mabonya, the father of the new chief, survived only a month after he was installed.
Social disparity, coupled with factional violence, for so long, has been the order of the day. Sub-divided into four areas namely; KaGodloza, KaGwegwe, Hlaleni and Ntshaba, a faction from one area was at war with a neighbouring faction.

To most members of the four sub-chiefdoms, the news that now they have a chief came with a big sigh of relief.  Notably, newborn babies in the area could be named Siyabonga, Nokuthula, Nkosiyezwa to name a few.
To most people in the area,  August 9, 2014 will go down in history as a day the community opened a new chapter.
One can proudly say: “Sebatawadla angene” or peace is in their domain.

Focusing on the unveiling ceremony itself, during the time of refreshments, nobody bothered themselves with whether his or her queuing partner was from KaGodloza or KaGwegwe.
All members of KoNtshingila feasted together.
It was a rare thing to do for these people. There is no doubt in one’s reasoning that KoNtshingila will now be transformed from a violence-riddled society into a socio-developmental chiefdom. With vast arable land, the land is tremendously fertile.

According to his acquaintances, new Chief, Sikelela is a gifted debating individual.
No doubt that as chief, he will use his talent to solicit major donors and developers to open business in the area.
For instance, KoNtshingila can become one of the bread baskets of this country. It is ironic though, that there are still certain groups engaged in the notorious acts of violence.
Others are calling or denouncing the new chief. For a moment, let us focus on the people of KoNtshingila’s appeal to His Majesty the King from the latter part of 2013 until 2014.

Mostly, the youth have engaged in several unsuccessful trips to Ludzidzini Royal Residence. It was not until recently that the King summoned the whole community to Ludzidzini.
Among other concerns of the KoNtshingila people were that Gelane Zwane had acted as chief for too long.
They asked for the King to intervene.

Kindly, the King, through the Council, summoned then acting Chief Gelane. During such royal deliberations, Zwane finally revealed the name of Sikelela as the heir to the KoNtshingila chiefdom. (Sikelela Simelane was in the courtship of Zwane).
Therefore, the area’s residents were instructed by Ludzidzini Indvuna TV Mtetwa to go back to various communities and peacefully wait until further notice from Ludzidzini. Finally, August 9, 2014 was the D-day.
One can mention that the KoNtshingila case received a class a treatment at Ludzidzini, unlike other chiefdoms.

Likewise Mamane Simelane, a resident of KoNtshingila, reportedly said: “We must now unite behind the new chief.” Yes, she is correct.
The future and progress will be determined by the unity of the community. Factionalism and defiance won’t work anymore. Dear residents still with the mentality and belief that the clock will once more be switched back must desist from such reasoning.

Ingoto seyengce indlela (old tricks will not be applied anymore. It is too late).
Nevertheless, people of KoNtshingila must not forget the hardship they went through of living in a community that has no chief for such a long period. It is a painful experience, indeed.
