WELCOME OUR NEW HERO

Sir,

His name is Sandile Hlatshwako. You may be forgiven if this name means absolutely nothing to you but I am sure everyone who swears by the name of the Capital city giants, Mbabane Swallows, will concur with me that this prolific goal poacher is what the doctor has ordered for the team.

Here I am talking about the man who scored a hat trick against Manzini Sundowns to transport the beautiful birds to the semi-final of the mouth-watering SwaziTelecom Charity Cup to set a date with Correctional Services side, Green Mamba on Sunday.

As I write this the former Malanti Chiefs striker is the leading goal scorer of the 13th edition of the SwaziTelecom Charity Soccer Spec-tacular.
This is the same man who took local football by storm last season when he scored 14 goals to win the MTN league top goal scorer award while donning the gold and black jersey of Pigg’s Peak based side, Malanti Chiefs.

History has it that the national team, Sihlangu’s striker shot to fame when playing for Tabankhulu Callies in the National First Division League where he topped the goal scorers’ chart and his goal scoring prowess never went unnoticed.
And now the player’s name has been inscribed in local football’s hall of fame.

Although many will argue that the player is yet to prove himself in Swallows colours, as in his last spell with the team he failed to break into regular first team, it is imperative to note that this player has a bright future in the game, provided he does not disappear to oblivion like many other promising footballers.

Consistency is an integral part in the performance of any football worth his salt.
With such strikers we can go a long way in eradicating the goal drought that has characterised local football in recent times.

A game without goals is a recipe for poor spectatorship hence one cannot cease to encourage local strikers to sharpen their scoring boots so as to make the 2014/15 season an entertaining one.

And of course, those who had thought that the departure of Ghanian striker, Mike Mohammed would be detrimental to Swallows’ performance must think again; Sandile Hlasthwako seems to be the right tonic to the teams’ frontline.

Comfort Jele
HAWANE
