IMPORTANCE OF HAVING CHIEFS

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

It is disappointing to learn that a number of areas are without chiefs. In some areas you find that it has been decades since there has been one.

As a result we experience land disputes, delays in projects and this ultimately affects development. Some will agree with me that this has also contributed to the failure of the successful implementation of decentralising Tinkhundla.

The traditional leaders have the challenge of speeding up the process of the installation of chiefs. As a country that is governed by the Tinkhundla system, chiefdoms remain the foundation of the system hence chiefdoms need to be led by those who are responsible.
If we want to show the beautiful part of our system let us speed up the installation of chiefs to avoid the unnecessary disputes. Of course the driver of the system is the chiefdoms.

It is always frustrating to see a person acting as a chief for a number of years. Before we go to Mbabane and say this is our capital city, before we go to Parliament and implement laws, let us see first if the foundation of our system is alright.

I am saying if possible chiefs must be installed as soon as possible because chiefdoms are the foundation of the system.
You cannot teach a person about our system of governance without touching the base.
I always say our government must always make sure Swazis see the beautiful part of being ruled by the Tinkhundla system day by day if not minute after minute.

Let the people be happy and convinced by the foundation of their system.
If people are not happy about the foundation, then you have a challenge.
