TEACH LOVE IN OUR SCHOOLS

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

I wish we all read Ndo Mdlalose’s inspiring advice published in the newspaper on Wednesday. I think that it is high-time ‘love’ was included in the curriculum in our schools. The reason I say this is because oftentimes people are misled by others who claim to have vast knowledge on matters of love.

However, you find that they give destructive advice for a variety of reasons, some could even be jealous. So many people who have failed in love always want others to join them in their quest for failing. But self-pity is a destructive emotion and only serves to harm everyone around you. One thing we need to accept as people is that losing someone who doesn’t value you is a gain and if love was never meant to be, it will never be no matter how hard you can try to fix it.
Lastly, let us do away with jealousy in our hearts, it is an incurable virus but we do have the ability to control it and if we do that I guarantee we can live longer.

Interesting, an Eye man among the blind is the king. Mdlalose's approach is just dehumanizing and monotonous. I suppose she knows the law of uniqueness, we are not all patients. Most of us are potential clients, and we are organism living in the environment, we affect the environment and the environment affects us, thus behavior results. She should consider psychoanalytic approach, and other modes of psychotherapy. we are fully functional and moving in unidirection, whether unconditional or conditional positive regard. Briefly consider environment in your approach. For instance if Govt is paying peanuts to teachers, what do you expext/ whats the motivating factor there? Open you ming and think like us we psychologists!
