LET’S PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT

Sir,

Looking outside and expecting to see the beauty of nature and the interesting sweet sounds of birds have now become a thing of yesterday.
What used to be green and appealing pieces of land have now become land filled with domestic waste products especially from fast foods. Driving along our beautiful country roads is no longer pleasurable as it used to be, every now and then you see flying plastic bags, soft drink cans etc, things that pollute our lovely pieces of land. The question that remains unanswered is why are we killing our environment.

Change

There is a need for a serious change in attitude in as far as conserving our environment is concerned. The environment is the basis of life and developed countries first took major steps in conserving the environment and in that way they were able to smoothly achieve their development goals.
By change of attitude towards the environment we simply need to make it our own thing and take care of it as if it is an individual’s asset. Every now and then you see people throwing waste material all over and who is to blame for this?

Issues

No one but us emaSwati. If our government would take such issues seriously and implement legislation that will govern the prolong use of plastics in the country, we can see a way forward towards being a First World country. In developed countries the use of plastics has been banned and they were substituted with paper bags which are bio-degradable and with these simple phenomena they have been able to conquer the struggle against pollution due to plastic waste.

Promote

In our country, buying a small thing such as an apple, it is wrapped in a plastic, a majority of supermarkets promote their brands using plastics and the smallest things that can be put in a paper bag are put in a plastic. It is pretty clear that we are lying when we say we love our country yet we always cause unnecessary pollution by just dumping waste all over.
