IT’S IN OUR HANDS NOW

Sir,

Wouldn’t letting people know more about their government’s operations help eradicate poverty and dependency? I believe teaching people about what goes on in terms of securing service delivery would help them understand when things are hard and they would know what to do to alleviate such. I’m positive without any doubt that a majority of rural folk know nothing at all about AGOA or WTO or even their government. How then can they play a significant role in uplifting their country’s economy? One thing I have come to realise in rural communities is that many are business-minded.

The only problem is that they are never trained on running and managing their businesses. Once you own an egg-laying hen, you are already in business. But lack of knowledge tells you that you are nowhere near becoming a business person. A free range hen’s egg costs between E2 and E5, while a day-old chick costs E20. A fully grown chicken costs up to E850 depending on the breed and quality. Chickens survive even in hard times if they are well managed and they produce and multiply very quickly. Now think about goats and cattle. All these are mostly found in rural areas and are easy to look after.

Trained

But the challenge is that, unless owners are trained on the business side of things, they will never be seen as potential economy drivers. Their owners will never enjoy the maximum benefits derived from owning such precious animals. However, who is to blame; nobody but ignorance. God says His people perish because they lack knowledge. I believe world governments are very busy defending their manifestos than empowering their people. This now leaves everything in our hands as pastors to take full responsibility of our communities.
It’s now in our hands to engage our communities in creating a biblical business culture, both spiritually, emotionally and physically. I believe being business-minded is God ordained. God created everything with a command to multiply.
