CONSPIRACY THEORIES AT PLAY

Madam,

As emaSwati we have changed drastically without us noticing. To me politics is just like clothing; where you can choose to wear anything you like on any time of the day. In fact politics has become the great deception of this century. As citizens we are holding onto a label, that we always resolve our problems through dialogue when in practice that is not the case. At all levels there are conspiracies and conspiracy theories being hatched, be it at family, community and national levels. The conspiracy theories would make even Robert Ludlum’s head spin! The higher the stakes, the greater the conspiracies. These range from personal to national considerations though I am saddened to note that personal considerations have taken centre. Politicians are now hell-bent on changing laws that will benefit the country, while at the same time some individuals are getting rich at the expense of the nation at large.

The major ingredient in dialogue is the truth. Now conspiracies are infamous for their deception and diversion strategies. As a nation how can we solve our problems peacefully when we lack this ingredient and are engaged in conspiracy theories? Even public servants, who normally escape criticism due to the perspective that they are neutral to political sentiment, are involved in conspiracy theories. In fact with their education, at the taxpayers’ expense and privileged positioning, they are the master spinners of conspiracy theories.

They are engaged in partisanships and are peddling favours or disfavours. Now that is why we find ourselves, as a nation, in this financial mess. We have workers whose motives are not clear whether they are for national or personal gain and here I mean the instigators who are the leaders. On the other hand, we have a government which seems to be undecided on what to do. Now if you look carefully, all these players are hiding vital truths from each other. Truths which once out, would take us out of this embarrassing situation.

The problem with conspiracies is that you do so while attempting to act normal. It is all underground. Now, we the public are left like spectators watching a pin pong or tennis game not knowing which side the ball will end. This is grossly unfair on the people. Please, let all parties revisit their conscience and realign themselves with the truth and have the nation’s interests in the forefront of all they think and do.
