LET’S ALL FIGHT CORRUPTION

 Sir,

I must state that in most African countries, corruption is the biggest evil especially in government. It is an undeniable fact that even in the Kingdom of Eswatini we do have that challenge.

That is why even His Majesty King Mswati III encouraged that we all need to fight and get rid of it. There have been reports of government officials being accused of corrupt acts and in all honesty, it is not an easy task to fight corruption.
As citizens of this country, it is like we are all expecting government to fight this battle alone yet that is not the correct way. It is the duty of every citizen to play their part in the fight against corruption.

Yes we do have the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) but it also needs our support.

Guilty

Most citizens are guilty of having played a role in corruption by not reporting it. Instead, they chose to be part of and benefitted just so they could feed their empty stomachs.

Because of poverty, people have kept quiet and allowed others to enjoy the fruits of corruption instead of reporting them. Such a scenario makes one feel like perhaps there is now a need to enact a law that will compel the arrest of people who have allowed corruption to happen under their nose. Yes we do have government officials who watch their colleagues do as they please and benefit fraudulently from tenders but no one reports it.

Some sit on important boards which decided on the awarding of tenders and allow the wrong people to benefit when they know that it is wrong. Some keep quiet and not report their corrupt superiors all because they are scared of losing their jobs. That is why as a country we have a long way to go in the fight against corruption.

Dear fellow emaSwati, the PM needs our support to fight corruption. We must remember that in the event that the country wins this battle, we will all benefit because the economy will improve. Right now the country’s financial position is not at its best and one of the reasons is corruption. Public funds have for years been looted and that is why the country is in the position that it is in.

The time has come for everyone to be a whistleblower. Just do it for the country. Even our Members of Parliament can greatly assist the country. It is the MPs that should move motions to probe or investigate parastatals whenever they get reports that there is corruption going on.
