GOOD MEN SHOULD STAND UP

The increase in violence against women has reached alarming proportions. Virtually every day, there is a report of men committing atrocious acts against women. The action taken to date on this issue by women is commendable, but it is time for men to deal with this. Putting it simply, men have abrogated their responsibility before God. We are no longer the heads of our homes and many of us grow up without the father figure in the family, yet the family unit is the basis of society. Without society, there is no civilization. Civilization exists by having strong laws and practices that protect society.

My fellow citizens, do you realise that the drive towards human rights has removed the rights of society. We live in prisons and the thugs roam free on the streets. A man throttled a three-week old baby after bashing the baby mama. After appearing in court he said he was under the influence of alcohol, saying that as an excuse but the magistrate was not taking lightly to the assault, and he received an option of a E5 000 fine or two years in jail. Wow, so we establish the value of a human life at E5 000; that is incredible! It was stated that the baby was strangled. Now in my dictionary, strangling means to kill. But, in this article it is unclear whether the baby survived or not. However, what a meagre punishment for such behaviour.

Another man recently strangled and stabbed a young mother to death, simply because she wanted no more dealings with him. I suppose that he will get a similar sentence. Now, can anyone convince me that a man who kills a woman has a right to live? The law and the human rights movement seems to conveniently forget about the right to life of the victim. ‘For evil to prevail, good men simply have to do nothing’ is so true. It is time for good men to rise up and do something.
