CONGRATULATIONS TO MPS-ELECT

Sir,

May I take this opportunity to congratulate the newly-elected Members of Parliament for ascending to the august House.
As the elections euphoria dies down, it is time to hit the ground running.

As your five- year term begins, it is imperative that you fully understand the essence of the task that lies ahead. It is important that you fully understand that you carry the aspirations of the people who voted you into office.

It is important that you fully understand that you have been elected to serve the nation and not to be served by the nation.
It is important that as you embark on the five year journey, you set yourselves objectives and that these objectives have to be smart.
It is important that above all, you remove all pieces of legislation that inhibit the growth of the nation, in particular economic inhibiting legislation.

Task

The task that lies ahead will not be an easy one, but again it is not insurmountable.
I just hope you will not continue to do things the same way your predecessors have been doing things for the more than five decades since we attained our independence, that formula has clearly failed the nation.

I hope there will be a total paradigm shift, all the strategies that we have been using since independence have failed us as confirmed by the lack of Foreign Direct Investment, the rampant unemployment rate, the perennial shortage of drugs in medical centres, the pathetic state of our roads and the list goes on and on.

In crafting a new path for our nation, you will need to be brutally honest in identifying the things that have driven us towards a dysfunctional state.
It will take guts and humility to effectively address these challenges, but above all, you will need the political will to do so. As the clock starts ticking, we will be keenly watching how your perform, and believe me in no time it will be elections time in 2023, and you will reap what you sowed over the five-year period.
