NEED TO ROOT OUT CORRUPTION

Sir,

While economists have shared various reasons why the county was struggling financially, one of them being a huge wage bill, I do feel that there are other reasons which we may be overlooking yet they are real. Yes the wage bill is indeed too high and costly but as a country we must also be wary of the other causes.
One of them, n my view, is corruption. There is a lot of corruption going on especially in government departments, and this has devastating effects on the economy and it will take time to recover.

While one might think it is nothing much, it is a big problem because corruption is costly—particularly for those who are already worse off. Several researchers have said it countless times that corruption manifested itself mostly in countries with greater levels of corruption, infant mortality and dropout rates are especially high, partly due to less spending on health and education. Reduced investment in these areas tends to hurt poor people the most, and contributes to higher inequality.

Find ways

The Kingdom of Eswatini falls among these, which means that there is a need to find ways of dealing with corruption. Corruption also leads to a situation where the public’s trust in government is eroded, which might cause unrest. And once there is unrest, the country will be in turmoil. The reason why it is crucial to tackle corruption is that if it continues, the many efforts being put in to help improve the economy will go to waste.

Loot

What would be the use of wasting time and energy trying to revive the economy when public officials loot the few thousands that the government has? Lastly, we must all remember that if corruption goes on unpunished, investors will see not benefit of coming to benefit in our beautiful country. When investors shy away, there is no future at all.
