OPEN UP THOSE MINES

Sir,

I once listened to my pastor preaching in church and I picked up part of the preaching and analysed it. He said that, “Whats the point of telling people that you have a very strong headache tablets and yet you are lying down in bed with a headache which is threatening to take your life,” would anyone believe that you are telling the truth?

Back to today’s topic. Why is our country wallowing in debts amounting to billions of Emalangeni when we have mines with different minerals? Why are the mines not operating? Why are they preserved? Is someone looking at owning the mines for a self gain?
The reason I chose to pick this topic for today is the simple fact that we are only left with about four years before reaching 2022.

great dedication

We are running from pillar to post, still planning how to reach 2022. I am fully aware that reaching 2022 is not a walk in the park, but needs great dedication and fast planning. My problem is that I do not hear of the 2022 committee, which in my opinion we should be having if we are really on the journey to achieve this vision.  In line with achieving the vision, the non-operational mines can play a big role to sustain it and beyond.

We have iron ore which can last the country for over four decades, we have a diamond mine which can last over a decade, we have a coal mine which can also last decades, we have gold mine which unfortunately is benefitting very few individuals for now. And by the way, it is not only one mine but we have a couple of gold traces. We have a Kaolin Mine and I can’t confirm this one because I had, through rumours that we also have platinum traces.

Now, in light of the above dormant resources in the form of minerals, can it not be possible to reach 2022 with a smile on our faces? It is a well known fact that in Eswatini, at least one head of a family is responsible for a minimum of about seven people. So mathematicians can do a proper job in calculating as to how many people can benefit from the opening of the mines.

Not unless in the long run we shall hear of cases of some individuals claiming that these mines belong to them.  No! These mines belong to all Swazis and are held by the King in trust of the Swazi Nation. So it is about time that they are now fully utilised to alleviate the unemployment and bring the much needed revenue which will enable us to attain our vision 2022.
Having said the above, may I then conclude that we are a rich country but with very bad planners.

country status

Eswatini shouldn’t have been classified under Third World countries in the first place because we have what it takes to put us in the First World country status.
I don’t believe that at this time there could be people sleeping on empty stomachs, I also don’t believe that there should be people who still sleep in falling stick and mud shacks, I don’t believe that we should be having a high unemployment rate,I don’t believe  we should be still begging  the IMF and World Bank for soft loans. But it is an unfortunate situation here in Eswatini because the wealth is concerntrated in few individuals.

But I look forward to a day where all emaSwati will be equally benefitting from these resources which belong to our forefathers because they defended them with their blood and life.

Lastly but not least, may I once again request the new government which shall be taking over from this current useless government to have a fast audience with our leader because I personally know that he is a good listener and never lends a deaf ear to a voice of reason, as long as he is engaged respectfully with facts; he listens.  This outgoing government has done great damage and the less said about it the better. As they prepare to go home, may their souls find favour with the devil that has used them profitably.
