GOVT FULL OF CRUELTY, HATRED

Sir,

Does this soon outgoing government possess an attribute, something called a heart or, in the Queen’s language, something called empathy? Is she accountable to her people?
This is the burning and heartrending question every sane-thinking member of our society is and should be asking himself or herself after reading the screaming headline - Hungry pupils collapse at school-that was published by the Times of Swaziland Thursday’s edition.

In simple words, empathy means human emotion that evokes feelings of being sympathetic, having compunction, consideration, humaneness, mercy, pity - the synonyms list is  as long as the road to Hospital Hill, where I believe decisions are taken that determine the fate of this nation.

pupils collapsING
In light of the above shocking news story which detailed how the pupils have collapsed in some schools as a result of hunger pangs just because our government, just like it did at the beginning of the first term when schools opened, has once again failed to provide food in some of the country’s schools. Therefore, which word dear reader describes these inhumane acts by our government?
Don’t waste your time to respond. Apathy, cruelty, hatred, inconsiderate is exactly how the nation views this act by our authorities.

Parents pay taxes and then the onus is on our government to use our taxes wisely and profitably to fulfil her obligation of being credibly accountable to her people.  In simple terms, through service delivery! It is not amusing at all to read about such perplexing news. We have for too long listened to the song ‘government is broke’.  We are no longer hoodwinked. Government cannot pull the wool over our eyes any longer.

A week or so ago, we read a shocking news story about how in a space of three weeks, globetrotting ministers spent a mouth-watering E2 million in foreign trips by over 10 ministers at the height of the shortage of food in schools. Come on! Let us be serious here! Who is fooling who here? Is the nation being taken for a ride down the Mbabane-Manzini Highway because EmaSwati ayahlonipha (EmaSwati are respectful)?

The lucky and privileged ones, the holier than thou of our nation, are being treated in state-of-the-art medical facilities beyond our borders while the nonentities are told to go home and prepare for the final destiny of all men - death.
But hey, as the Bible never falters in its chilling message contained in its infallible pages: “The living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing and that we are all going to stand before the Judgement Seat of God - account for all our deeds.... good or bad’

Without any shadow of doubt, surely we are all going to give an account including this government which is responsible for deliberately letting our children learn on empty stomachs and collapse in schools. Don’t get me wrong here. I am not judging our government. Its sins are judging it. I am aware that when one speaks the truth, in the books of our authorities, you are labelled as  unSwati. But hey, one Lofty and Holy once said:  “The truth will set you free.” So be it. Am I being unpatriotic by condemning this painful act?
Will our Members of Parliament come to the rescue this time around and give government an ultimatum? I guess so because elections are around the corner.
