NEPOTISM WORSE IN NGOS

Sir,

Please allow me to raise the alarm and expose these hypocrites calling themselves civic society organisations otherwise known as non-governmental organizations (NGOs). These entities certainly are rotten to the core.

They always stalk and bark at government in the name of holding it accountable yet they forget to start by keeping their house in order.
They do not practice what they preach. Even the Bible, in Matthew 7: 3, says; “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” It is hypocritical.

Today my focus will be on the nepotism that defines most of these NGOs operational in Eswatini. This is not a bitter allegation as it might be perceived but this is the truth and I am only raising it because I want to put it out there so that the public and donors can do their own investigation into this matter.

NGOs con unsuspecting overseas donors to create a ‘feeding scheme’ for their families and friends. What pains me the most is that even those that claim to be faith based together with those that claim to be leading ones or ‘big’ ones are practising this inhumane practice. Maybe it’s time they get regulated because as it stands it seems like every lazy person can wake up and form a family/friends/relatives’ recruitment firm and parade it as an NGO for purposes of soliciting donor funds.

One would argue that nepotism is everywhere which is right. Eswatini is a country in which skills and qualifications are less valued than blood for employment. All companies have nepotism traits but NGOs, as anti-poverty ambassadors and advocates of fairness, should practice what they preach. Nepotism is the worst form of corruption because it kills merit. Does the Anti Corruption Commission of Eswatini have power to investigate them?

If yes, may they please do so and if no, who has it? They draft employment policies which are not complied to and submit them to donors when soliciting funds. These people simply study the society and its needs and then use our misfortunes to make a fortune which they come back to share with their relatives in the form of salaries and allowances.

I personally know of one family in my area of residence which has all its members join a certain NGO when they complete school. Are these organisations for all of us or they are ‘feedlots’ for relatives?

Who employs us orphans who emerge from the dusty remote areas with no relatives in upper positions? Should we die poor because our parents and their parents were poor?

Government, as the head of operations of the land, must conduct nepotism audits in all companies and organisations and that alone will encourage fair competition for employment and it will directly improve productivity for companies and organisations in Eswatini. A lot of deserving EmaSwati are unemployed and we will remain with high levels of unemployment until we uproot nepotism.
