X3, GOLF 7S PURCHASED FOR ACC

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

The obvious question is why, honestly, does this government parastatal require top of the range, high performance cars?

The CTA GTM says other institutions outside the country use similar vehicles, so Swaziland should follow suit. Are ACC workers going to ‘pursue and apprehend’ criminals in these vehicles because many are former police officers?
Which of these ex-RSP officers have been on specialised, regular training required to be an expert in the chasing and apprehending of criminals at high speed?
Using the USDF and OSSU as a benchmark for the ACC, really?

Does the ACC have the right, power or capability to ‘pursue and apprehend’ criminals on public roads or in public places?
Are these ACC people trained to the level required to drive these high performance vehicles for the above purpose? I don’t believe they are legally allowed, qualified or capable for high speed pursuit, so how are they going to apprehend the said criminals without breaking the law?

Is there legislation granting them the right to take the law into their own hands; this is always a grey area and I’m sure only the RSP qualify (not ex-RSP)? The ACC has the right for high speed pursuit on public roads, since when?
As far as I am aware, the RSP is the only organisation that is allowed to pursue and apprehend criminals. Where and how have road users been warned that the ACC may be involved in chasing after criminals at high speed in the red Golf GTIs?

Over the past few weeks the main topic for media discussions has been the budget and the lack of funds for vital projects. Yet we must read how imperative it is for the ACC to have top of the range, high performance motor vehicles for chasing after criminals.

How on earth did the purchase and provision of these cars ever get signed off? Flashy cars for personal image is the only objective here and once again the wool pullers try to distract us with stories about chasing after criminals.
