WHAT’S WRONG WITH GOVT?

Sir,

Can someone please enlighten me as to what is happening in our country? It seems all the government wheels are coming off in all its sectors.

There is the dysfunctional free primary education which has grounded most of the schools in the country as government is putting its foot down that it will not disburse funds to schools that have not provided pins. It is disheartening to note that some children, mostly in rural schools, do not know even the whereabouts of their parents who can get them birth certificates. How will they get pins then? Does that mean those schools will not get any funds until the end of the year? If so, how will they operate?

It is a pity that even Parliament is not getting at the bottom of this issue in order for the funds to be released urgently to all schools so that children’s education is not further interrupted. In other countries such a stinking stance by government of delaying the payments in education would trigger much fervor in Parliament that would even result in the recall of the president. But we know Swazi MPs only robustly debate issues that affect their stomachs.
I am really disgusted by the depreciation of the education sector which was once highly rated during the times of apartheid in South Africa. Now our education is going to the dogs and pretty fast, might I add.

I remember the time when a lot of South Africans would bring their children to study in Swaziland, just because we had a good education system. But because of our government’s convoluted priorities we are now a laughing stock of the whole world.
Government has also refused to grant civil servants a cost of living adjustment despite the skyrocketing inflation rate.

Instead government has given hefty salary increases to ostensibly those who are close to its heart while the rest of the hardworking, loyal but docile civil servants were given 0 per cent increment. Its claim is that it is broke. This is despite the glaring fact that is clear even to a toddler that government is awash with money. The continuous funding of useless projects is just a naked display of affluence.

Even though government treats the docile nation as imbeciles it must know that docility cannot be equated to imbecility. People no matter how docile and servile they may be, they have a patience threshold.
