DISAPPOINTED AT MPS

Sir,

I am saddened, disheartened and very disappointed at Members of Parliament for lying to the nation and most of all to our elderly people. From the word they preach in their homes, an act of deliberate deception to elders, by a devious child, into believing lies is cursed.

I would be very happy if that could be the case for our proudly elected parliamentarians for the huge deception at our elders. They made elderly people believe falsified information that they would not only have consistent payment of their grants but they would receive a E400 per month grant payoff from the next financial year. This was not fake news.

It is safe to believe that there was no mistake in this; it was deliberate. They are campaigning for re-election in the next elections. That is inappropriate use of power and this is unacceptable. It is not possible that such a huge number of parliamentarians would commit such a massive mistake of deceiving the nation and the elderly people; unless of course they became so obsessed with being re-elected. They have given a lame excuse for this.

This is a huge tragedy of miscalculation. The big question that never left my mind was on the possibility of this E400 being distributed to each adult person: how was it possible?

Since the economy is struggling with the shock declaration of its ally (Rand and SA economy) to junk status by many rating agencies, and the imported inflation being unavoidable, how then can the national economy be so stable and capable to accommodate extra financial obligations of this magnitude? It was blatant to many men on the street that it wasn’t going to be possible. Why was this not the case to the election-obsessed MPs.

Minister Hlangusemphi admitted that the whole ministry of educated individuals and so many parliamentarians committed a serious misjudgement.

This on its own is unconceivable. Now they are playing with the minds of Swazis and playing ‘Squealer’s approach’ of playing around with words. They call it a grant not a privilege. Their evil abilities and potential are showing their colours.

Even though the PM managed to identify the problem and publicised it, which was unheard-of of him, but for them to emerge lambasting and opposing the act of the head of State of openly declaring their promise of grants to elders null and baseless. It is really unwise and very poor of them.

The issue was not handled with the deserved privacy and it was already in the public domain. It was no longer a Parliament concern, but a national issue. It is not about turning people against one another but about honesty and reputation. Whichever way you can view this, it discredits government and the reputation of the monarchy. I hope the politicians will rectify this. Making impossible commitments and promises must come to an abrupt end.
