BRING BACK DEATH PENALTY

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

Allow me to speak on behalf of the thousands of voiceless Swazis who seek urgent intervention. I am writing this letter with a heavy heart. It hurts a lot to read newspapers everyday and see women and children being killed in our society like flies.

I am worried about the fact that it seems like we are turning a blind eye as if nothing is happening, yet these incidents happen almost on a weekly basis.
In fact, you may find that they happen on a daily basis because there are those who do not report cases to the police but their families just bury their relatives without even reporting to the police.
I am pleading with Prime Minister, Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini because I believe he is the father of the Swazi nation.

Hlubi, we are now afraid to go to the shops or send our children. We are now scared to go to the forests and look after cattle or visit our neighbours.
As parents, we now fear sending our children to school or church because we do not know if they will come back or not. Our beautiful women and young boys and girls are being slaughtered like sheep but why?
Life has become difficult as we witness Swazis killing one another these days. It is like the Heavens have forsaken us. What have we done? To our government, especially the PM, we are under severe attack by criminals who peddle drugs, kidnap, rape and kill. Is this what our forefathers and fallen heroes fought for?

These days it is like people find it a game to commit crime in the form of drugs and cold blooded murders, followed by dumping of bodies in rivers. Urgent action must be taken on this because the people who are murdered also belong to this country and pay tax.
I also feel that our MPs can play a role in solving this problem by amending some of the existing laws on crime. Harsh punishment should be introduced so that even those who were thinking of committing crime could think twice. MPs must lobby each other and call for the death penalty to be brought back because right now, it would be the only solution.

It is high time that we stop treating criminals with kids loves because they actually do not deserve to live in our society.
They are taking advantage of the peace and the sometimes too liberal laws. Gone are those days when Swaziland was known as a country of law and order.
