‘CHAOS AT MBABANE PICK AND PAY CAR PARK’ SOLUTION

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

I refer to a letter written by a ‘Concerned Shopper’ which appeared in yesterday’s publication with the above topic. I would like to commend the writer for raising this issue as it affects Mbabane residents.

If one has not spent an hour trying to negotiate that traffic, then he/she is not a resident of Mbabane.
I thus provide a piece of advice to the Mbabane City Council (MCC) as outlined in the diagram. I am not an engineer but I am using common sense.
Point A (exit from Super-Spar and traffic lights next to the Swazi Plaza) is where all the trouble is, and Point B (traffic lights next to Total) gets spill overs.

The simplest solution for MCC, in the short term, is to take a grader and open a route at Arrow C (between Super-Spar and Cooper Centre), work which can take less than two hours, and leave the opening as gravel for now, while sourcing funds for tarring the route.
That can ease traffic as soon as this Friday, depending on negotiations with the owner of the land.
For a long term solution, MCC should open the road at Arrow D (next to Cooper Centre), and introduce traffic lights in the new four way leading to the police station, again depending on land ownership, which the MCC can easily pay given the exorbitant rates we pay. That could also ease the pressure on the traffic police officers who always control traffic in these areas.
