LETTER TO POLICE COMMISSIONER
We wish to make reference and respond, albeit belatedly, to a letter to the editor that appeared in the Times of Swaziland dated May 30, 2017 wherein a foreign national (from Zambia) who was in the country for the SADC Summit, wrote an open letter to the national commissioner of police wherein he praises the local police for their standard of excellence and professionalism.
In fact, the writer notes that prior to visiting Swaziland, a country he vows to visit again on his next vacation, he had negative perceptions about the local police mainly gleaned from social media, until he had an encounter with our 6986 Sergeant Sandile Meshack Khumalo based at the Mbabane Police Station, after the visitor and some of his compatriots were victims of a crime.
In his open letter, the writer waxes lyrical about the professional manner the said officer handled their case, going further and well way beyond the normal call of duty, to share a word of prayer with them.
This made a telling and profound impression upon the visitors, hence the writer found it necessary to share their experience and praise the national commissioner for the standard of the local police.
Whereas, as already noted, our response is belated, we feel commendations to officer Khumalo are well merited for being a shining example of police excellence and putting our organisation and country on the map the way he has.
This standard of servitude, dedication and empathy should serve as a reference point even to other officers out there for each and every one to realise that he/she can be a worthy ambassador for the organisation wherever they are.
To Sergeant Khumalo we say well done and keep up the good work!
E S DLAMINI
FOR NATIONAL COMMISSIONER OF POLICE
