BEATITUDES IN REVELATION

Sir,

The book of Revelation provides us with seven beatitudes or seven pronouncements of blessing for those who will follow Christ until the end. These blessings also serve as assurances that Christ will never leave nor forsake his faithful followers.

These beatitudes begin in the first chapter and conclude in the last chapter of Revelation.
They are more of a summary of the message in Revelation, put together they represent the complete blessings of God for all His faithful followers.

The first blessing is for all who read, hear and keep God’s word. “Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.” (Revelation 1:3)

When the books of Daniel and Revelation are clearly understood believers will have an entirely different religious experience.
The second Beatitude is found in Revelation 14:13 - “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.”
Death is the common fate of all mankind, whether rich or poor, famous or unknown, we all die.

The truth is you can live a healthy lifestyle, you can exercise and eat healthy, there will still be a time when we are destined to die.”What is your life,” asks James, “Your life is like a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” (James 4:14)
Life is unpredictable and brief. We don’t even know what will happen the next hour, much less next week or next year.

The truth is that no one can predict the future. But blessed are we if we die in the Lord.
The third Beatitude of Revelation is found in chapter 16:15. “Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.”

The purpose of this blessing is to arouse God’s people to be ready for no one knows the day of His coming. “Be ye also ready, for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of Man will come.” (Matthew 24:44)
The fourth beatitude is found in Revelation 19:9. “And He saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.

And He saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.” We have all been invited to this marriage supper and Christ has provided the wedding garment. This garment is a gift from Christ himself, it is His own righteousness. For us to enter heaven it’s not because of our own righteousness, we need the sacrificial death and atoning blood of Jesus.

The next beatitude is found in Revelation 20:6. “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection; on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.”
This is a fulfillment of what will come to pass before we enter into the marriage supper of the Lamb, there will be a resurrection of the saints. Those who died in Christ will take part in the first resurrection which is the resurrection of life.

The sixth beatitude is found in chapter 22, the last chapter of the Bible, and verse 7. “Behold I come quickly. Blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.”
Dear reader, life is too unpredictable and too brief to live it without God at the center. We count our lives in years but God tells us in Psalm 90:12 to number our days.Let’s live each day of our lives with God at the Centre.
God bless you
