PAYING FOR TV LICENCES

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

Correct me if I’m wrong; if I understand this issue concerning television licences correctly is that no matter how many TVs you have or where they are located: at home or in an office or any business, we are required by law to have a TV licence for each and every TV we own?

I remember when I was growing up my parents hired a TV from STAR because they could not afford to buy their own TV.
They paid a monthly fee for that privilege of hiring a TV set (the good old faithful SALORA TV sets). I’m sure back then a lot of money was made through us hiring the sets. But years later we now buy our own TVs and government still wants to milk us for TV licences.

Anyway I must get back to the point of this letter. Whether dumb or not the question I have to ask is this; are the outlets selling TVs going to pay TV licences for their stock of TVs and you must remember some of them have them switched on for us to marvel at the wonderment of the modern TV set.

When TV sets are sold who goes about transferring the licence from the store owners’ names to our names. I pay a lot of money for my DStv and I get a lot of viewing pleasure for the money paid, there is none such at Swazi TV.
