DOUBLE BUBBLE!

Sir,

The article regarding a ‘government official owing E2.6 million offers to pay E2 000 monthly’ has greatly confused me with the calculation from an honorable MP suggesting it would take 35 years for this man to settle his debt. How on earth did this gentleman reach his 35-year figure for the debt settlement?

According to my calculation; E2.6 million ÷ E2 000 = 1 300 payments: 1 300 ÷ 12 months = 108.33 years.
Apparently the man will be around retirement age in about five years time so it may prove difficult to find a happy medium for him to pay back the ‘Interest Free Loan’ he has been enjoying all this time.

He’ll need to pay back +E40 000 a month if he’s going to square up before he goes home for a deserving rest. Try negotiating that one PAC. Perhaps because it’s one of the learned MPs the figures suggested need not be verified. A primary school child could have done the two sums above yet a Member of Parliament comes up with a completely different figure.

For how long was this official being paid by two departments that he can owe such a large sum of money? If he was getting a E50 000 salary from his ‘Fly By Night’ second role then he was receiving his ‘Lucky Packet’ for more than four years and nobody noticed anything?

It has been said, many times before - no one is ever accountable or taken to task for these ‘white collar crimes’ and nobody knows anything? Blank faces and raised eyebrows are the order of the day when it comes to getting to the real facts of what happened, involving who, when and how much?
As per just three ‘criminal masterminds’ incarcerated for the E50 million fraud, it would seem that just one person is at the bottom of this complete mockery as well - really?

The kingdom is obviously a haven for criminals who masterfully avoid the long arm of the law because there are so many stories about corruption and theft but where are the stories about all the culprits getting punishments fitting their crimes?

We all know that government is an extremely dense can of worms, it is very slowly unraveling much corruption and mostly via a disgruntled element who missed out on a piece of the pie and decided to spill the beans instead?

When are we actually going to have some real justice? When are criminals going to be dealt with properly that there might be some fear and respect for the legal system here in the kingdom?
