BUFFALOES’ TRIUMPH BRINGS NEW DIMENSION TO LOCAL FOOTBALL?

Sir,

You may be forgiven if the slogan #Yelele means absolutely nothing to you but I am sure that everyone who genuinely loves local football is aware that it is associated with the SwaziBank Cup which came to an end this past Sunday, courtesy of a scintillating final pitting Young Buffaloes against Matsapha United.

One cannot help but congratulate the marauding army side which finally came to the party to clinch the trophy in spectacular fashion.
After reaching many cup finals but failing to win on several occasions, Amathole Ezinyathi finally took it home in front of hordes of football followers at Somhlolo Stadium.

The game lived up to expectations as both sides demonstrated a high level of determination. It was indeed a huge sigh of relief for the Buffaloes family as the boys fought gallantly to bring smiles to their faces. And they were not prepared to undermine their opponents hence they were combative.

In the 14-year history of this tournament Buffaloes have never won it, having only reached the final in 2014 where they were beaten 2-1 by Royal Leopard. In recent times this Buffaloes team has proven to be one of the formidable sides in local football circles, and of course their triumph could bring confidence to the players as they embark to compete for more silverware. Could this be the rise of another football giant in the local football fraternity?

Could this be a dawn of a new era for elite football in as far as competition is concerned?
Surely Buffaloes have to remain consistent if they want to be counted among the dominant forces in domestic football, following in the footsteps of other giants like Mbabane Swallows and Royal Leopard who also left a mark in local football history.

We hope that the army side will not blow hot and cold, but will compete effectively against the best this country has on offer thus bringing the much desired competition in elite league football. For a football analyst worth his or her salt there is nothing disappointing like seeing lack of competition among the teams.

And the mind boggling question is; are they ready for the challenge? Do they really have what it takes to compete effectively locally and internationally? With their form in the MTN Premier League, where they are perched on the second spot, we are given a glimmer of hope that this Buffaloes team has the potential of bringing the competition to the so called barometers of local football.
