WHAT IS SWSC DOING ABOUT WATER CONSERVATION?

Sir,

Most people in the country did not enjoy the latter part of 2016 as a result of the scarcity of water which came with the drought that hit the kingdom. Residents of Mbabane were subjected to water rationing, something they were not familiar with, and would not want to go through ever again if they had it their way.

The Swaziland Water Services Corporation found itself having to run helter skelter trying to find sources of water to alleviate the inconvenience that was being experienced by the residents. That is an effort which I should mention was appreciated but my concern now is what is the parastatal doing to enhance its water conservation initiatives, if any, as a result of the recent rains. In a conversation with a person in the employ of the entity it came to light that there were no steps taken by the corporation in as far as water conservation is concerned and this shook me to the core.

If this is true I am gravely concerned about why the entity is not doing anything to take advantage of the rains. It has been mentioned that weather patterns will frequently be unpredictable, therefore it goes without saying that they should be at the forefront of improving on their water conservation methods. As an entity for the people, it should be informing us to put us at ease on what is being done because water rationing is not an alternative we would like to experience again.
