GOD IS MINDFUL OF YOU

Sir,

When you’re in an abusive relationship, you feel trapped, suffocated but with no way to escape, people close to you often wonder or even ask why you don’t walk out of the relationship or report your oppressor to the relevant authorities and of course with good reason. It is not always as easy as they see it, especially because they do not witness what you go through in the hands of the man, abusers instill so much fear in their victims that every threat they make, you believe they will actually carry it out should you go against them.

Feeling that you have no way of escaping (I thought I would die in the hands of the man who constantly abused me), makes you often wonder why God would allow such torment in your life if He indeed is a compassionate God. Why couldn’t He stop your oppressor from hurting you or just punish him for the barbaric act? Why does it feel like God has deserted you to deal with all the traumatic experience on your own? Didn’t He promise never to leave nor forsake you? If so then where is He in your situation; you ask yourself. Does He even care about what you’re going through? These are some of the many questions I often asked myself while still in the clutches of abuse.

The fact that we go through hardships and feel deserted by God, doesn’t mean that He has forgotten about us or that He’s no longer watching over us; the truth is that God is mindful of us. Though I was not saved during my ordeal; I knew about God but didn’t have a relationship with Him. I allowed God into my life during the latter years of my prison life and I really thank Him. I did because His Word has really helped nurture my healing to the level I’m currently at, it is still ongoing though because healing is a process, especially the emotional part, it takes allowing God to be part of your life to break the chains.

“God knows everything about you, He knows your thoughts, He sees and knows all you do, He knows what you are going to say even before you say it, He goes before you and follows you. He saw you before you were born and all the days of your life were recorded in His books even before you began to live. His thoughts are on you always!” (Psalm 139 paraphrased). People may forget about you, which is what usually happens when one is going through hardships, they may disappoint you at the time when you need them the most. God doesn’t disappoint, though it may not feel like it but He is there, no matter what you’re going through, it went through Him first and He made a way for you to be able to endure in that situation. God watches over you like a goldsmith watches over gold in the fire so that it does not perish. To God you are more precious than gold, He has good plans for you, plans not to destroy you.

The suffering you are going through has not come to kill you, no matter how much it feels near to death, in fact I congratulate you that you are still alive and have not tried to commit suicide, maybe you did attempt suicide (I attempted it more than three times during my suffering), but the fact that it was unsuccessful is because God has not purposed for you to die in that situation. Refuse to let the situation bury you alive, fight to press on, even though you do not understand how God is operating in your life, allow Him to fulfill His purpose concerning your life.
