THE CONTINUOUS BATTLE ON HIV/AIDS

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

Sex this sex that, this has been all the rage lately what with campaigns promoting circumcision or condom usage have been means to try to avoid the spread of HIV and unwanted pregnancies.

I am very pleased to learn that the concerned ministry and the related organisations are working hard to stop or reduce the spread of this deadly virus.

But to my surprise there are people who are unashamed to raise a concern that goes against all the above measures to control HIV. A blind eye is being turned on them, it is wrong to just want to sleep with the young innocents and put them at risk.

If it were up to me any sexual act between unmarried people would be considered as rape because there has not been an official agreement between the two, the sex consent age would be raised to 21 where one is even given the key to life.

All the means done by the ministry are welcomed but to me it is as though they are trying to put out a fire caused by a flammable gas without closing the valve from the source of the gas. So let us search for the valve and brainstorm ways on which we can reach the valve of this mysterious fire.

A clue to this search is searching the scriptures, abstinence before marriage and sticking to one partner after marriage.
If it were our culture from the beginning HIV would have never got a way into our system. But now that it has, let us protect our children by enforcing with heavier laws.

Bongani
