SA’S 21ST FREEDOM DAY BOYCOTTED?

Sir,

Some time ago, the South African Ambassador, His Excellency Happy Mahlangu hosted the 21st Freedom Day celebrations at his official residence and there were reports that some ministers and MPs boycotted the event due to unknown reasons.

Only Manzini North MP Jan Sithole attended. There has not been a clear explanation on why the others boycotted the event yet they received invitation cards, which means they were informed in advance. Maybe there are reasons why they failed to turn up but I choose or prefer to mention only two.

The first one was that they did not want to rub shoulders with representatives from proscribed entities.
The second reason could be that to them, the word freedom is bad, in the sense that they don’t like it. They disassociate themselves with it. They think freedom is not a good thing.

If MPs and ministers hate the word Freedom Day, what are they saying exactly? I guess it means they do not like it.
I want to make an example, if you attend church services that talk about salvation yet you hate salvation, the moment they preach about it you storm out of the church. So, since they did not attend the Freedom Day, it means they are against freedom.

To boycott banquets is not new, even in biblical times it happened and this is confirmed in the book of Matthew 22:1-10.
The only difference is that Ambassador Happy Mhlanga did not replace all invited guests with commoners, or the men in the streets to help themselves with the food and beverages. So, he wasted his money. Why did they let him down?
