ARE WE FREE FROM ECONOMIC SLAVERY?

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

We can say that we black people got independence but the reality is that economically we are still slaves. I can say that as black people we are born in the state of economic slavery. But why is this? Who is responsible for emancipating us? Poverty has become normalised in our society.

Out of so many black people struggling in many comminities, only a few were emancipated (economic parole) in this economic slavery and those people splash cash like never before (you know how it is like being poor for so long). But sadly most of those people don’t last long before they go back to poverty.

There are many lessons we can learn from the Indian community, like their referral systems. We black people never support each other but we view each other as competitors. That is why we will remain in financial shackles. To make matters worse we are still using the same economic system which was left by the oppressor.

Entrepreneurship is the only way to be economically free (not necessarily stable). But our education system is structured in such a way that you think of jobs (at university or college you are even given a list of your possible employers) not to be entrepreneurs.
This is especially true for countries like Swaziland, where instead of creating more job opportunities, we are losing the little we have.
