The Nation would be aware of a story headline that appeared in one of the countries dailies captioned ‘KaGodloza Faction Reports Cops to Ludzidzini Council’.

In a nutshell, the author narrates that the KaGodloza faction has reported the police service to the Ludzidzini Committee, for being biased and wasting resources by providing security at the KaGwegwe Umphakatsi.
Furthermore, the people cited in the story allege that the police are acting in a partial manner and friendly towards the KaGwegwe faction because they received a cow from the aforesaid faction. This gift according to the story is equalled to a bribe.

Consequently, the aggrieved faction threatens not to cooperate but will go to the extent of fighting with the police.
Constitutionally, the Royal Swaziland Police service is mandated to ensure maximised safety and security of life and property for all citizens, irrespective of the status of the person(s) or communities concerned.

To ensure that adequate security is provided to any citizen or area requiring such, a threat assessment is often conducted to inform the strategy and the deployment levels that would best suit the security requirements for that particular scenario.

Suffice that, the extensive patrols and police presence at KaGwegwe Royal Kraal was in tandem with our intelligence-led approach to ensuring effective and efficient management of public disorder situations, hence, should not be construed as biasness or wastage of resources.

Accordingly, visible police patrols are also conducted in communities including KaGodloza, to achieve the same objective of heightening security measures.
Agreeably, we acknowledge that from time to time the police receive gifts from the citizens who are partners with the police in our crime prevention initiatives. Such stakeholders include traditional Authorities, Business Community, individuals and other cooperating partners.

Hence, the gift of a cow cited in this story cannot be singled out as a bribery case, as this was purely a gift to the police and was received following proper channels as outlines in our Force Standing Orders.
In response to the statement that the KaGodloza community members are bracing themselves to fight the police and will not be cooperative, as a police service we find this statement irresponsible and out of order. Such spouts are tantamount to inciting the community to be anti-police and surely threaten the safety and security frameworks of the nation.

Suffice that the police will remain committed to upholding the rule of law, firmly, fairly and without fear or favour.
As we conclude, we wish to state that we respect all the structures that are dealing with this matter and hope that a long-lasting solution will be found.
Accordingly, we also wish to state that as a police service we have an open door policy, thus we encourage that those with grievances approach our offices for recourse.
