NATIONAL COMMISSIONER NEGLECTING CIDS

Editor,

Ever since I joined the police service some 18 years ago, I have seen things happening. When I joined, I was told to work hard to be elevated. Let me say, I did that, working hard in the police service. At first I started by joining the CID Department when I was only three years into the service.

The work load is too much in this department such that a detective in this department always has sleepless nights thinking about suspects and maintaining dockets.

Early in the morning of each day, you see detectives waking up to arrest dangerous suspects and seriously, these guys and ladies are dedicated in executing their duties.

The country as a whole is protected like this because of detectives. Most suspects are everyday brought to book because of these detectives.
Some few years back, a department called DCS was introduced where the guys and ladies work day and night; focusing on rape cases, children and the most difficult duty of counselling broken families.

motivate

My story is about the way the national commissioner is failing to motivate detectives. In all promotions you only find that maybe ten (10) CID officers were elevated out of about 80 promotions.

This is not good Mr Commi-ssioner. Please reconsider that under the CI Department, there are lots of sub-departments. It consists of DCS, CIS, stock theft, scenes of crime, General CID, only to mention a few.

In my observation, I suggest that detectives should be motivated with promotions and allowances. But with Mr Magagula in charge, only general duty is given first preference. I was surprised in one of the promotions to see that someone was promoted because ugidze kahle. If that particular somebody ugidze kahle, why can’t that somebody be taken to the Arts Department. In the police service, asigidzi la, but we arrest suspects.

painful

This is really painful. Some detectives have worked for more than 10 or maybe 15 years without a single promotion; just a simple promotion of being sergeant. Mara why national commissioner?

Instead of thinking about us as detectives, or junior police officers, Mr Magagula has introduced lots and lots of ranks.
Now it will be very difficult to reach a rank of being senior officer. Only seniors have benefitted from the structure introduced by His Majesty. What about juniors?

Lastly, sometime back we knew that CIDs were people in the commissioner’s heart but not anymore.
I think we should change the name from Criminal Investigation Department to Criminal Investigation Tortoise Department (CITD) ori kanjani national commissioner? Tortoise department, yah neh.
