AN OPEN LETTER TO THE POLICE

Editor,

It is very disappointing to read from newspapers (Times of Swaziland, April 13, 2015) that the National Commissioner went to KaLuhleko to try and keep peace in the area. I wonder if Mr Magagula (the National Commissioner) knows all the facts with regard to what is exactly happening at KaLuhleko.

I wish that he listens to the two sides so that he could have a clear picture of what exactly is happening. May I remind the national commissioner that in August 2012, an old woman disappeared and she has not been found to date.

The sad part is that as residents of KaLuhleko, we are not happy with the role played by the police. The only time they pretended to be serious was when they arrested 25 residents after the police were told by the very suspects to do so. Police have really failed us as residents of KaLuhleko, they are biased. I want National Commissioner Magagula to know that if they can seriously investigate the issue of the disappeared old woman, I swear that they could get the culprits within a day because they are known.

One particular individual, who holds a senior position in the area, has been reported a number of times to the police for different crimes but nothing has been done to that person to date. As residents, we no longer trust the police. They have proved to the residents that it is who you are that matters and not what you have done. We are kindly asking the national commissioner to visit people of kaLuhleko at a neutral venue to get complaints from the residents.

May the national commissioner respond to the above concerns, not through writing but by taking action. We want the culprits behind the disappearance of the elderly woman arrested so that the innocent could be cleared. If it means investigating pastors, traditional healers, traditional leaders then let it be, so long as at the end of the day, the culprits get caught. We are really tired of police turning a deaf ear to this matter since 2012.

Concerned Resident
