DISAPPOINTED WITH FUNEKILE’S MURDER CASE

Sir,

The various media coverage we have read in the last two weeks or so with regard to the heinous murder of Funekile Gule brought very fresh memories of the murder. It is as if it has just happened.

However, things are slowly but surely getting to where we all want them to be; pointing to the people who killed this beautiful girl last year on April 17, 2014. The fact that the autopsy has in all probability cleared any possible dog involvement in the murder, makes all of us cease to guess wider about the identity of the murderers. I want to express my disappointment in the manner in which the police are handling this case.

To keep on saying they are still hard at work with investigations when a year has already gone by, and that they do not want to comment any further now about Funekile’s murder can only be taken as an insult to our intelligence. What needs to happen for the police to help bring the murderers to book? I wonder if the police are cognisant of the scale of damage they are causing by playing these undue delaying tactics.

Even in soccer, delaying tactics are treated with due punitive measures. Each time I think of Funekile’s cold-blooded murder, my heart always goes out to her family.

The sorrow they are going through since her death must be breathtaking. Fine, if you see them in shopping malls or wherever, they may look fine from outside: laughing and giggling at things, but their hearts must be very heavy-laden with sorrow and anguish. When sorrow remains unresolved in a person’s life, a lot of things happen. By delaying to bring the murder case to finality, the police are like someone who is conducting an insidious genocide, carelessly feeding a slow-working poison to an entire clan.

The only panacea to this murder is to arrest the perpetrators without any element of fear or favour just like what other police officers are doing in other quarters of the country. Incongruent people kill innocent women, and suspects thereof get arrested at once. A young beautiful teenage girl in Matsapha, just a few yards away from a police residence, got killed some weeks back, almost under identical circumstances to Funekile.

Disappointed Citizen

Mbabane Police must ask for help from Manzini Police. Two weeks there was a similar case in Manzini and the suspect has been arrested.

It is really sad. That is why crime rate in South Africa has reached high levels. When evil people commit crimes and the police fail to do their job murder rates increase because the perpetrators know they will get away with it. I just viewed Statistics in on murder rates in different countries and we are even ahead of South Africa implying police are sitting on their job and cant protect our society. Its sad. This are the issues that have to be addressed if we are to realise a first world country in Swaziland. Safety standards in first world countries are high which attracts investors and tourist which are the ingredient to economic growth.
