WHY DO WE SPEND SO MUCH ON THE ARMY

Sir,

According to the recent report by the global peace index 2014-2015, they said Swaziland was among the highest arms spenders in security matters if compared with agriculture. Our position ranked 87 out of 162 countries internationally.

This was not in line with the Maputo declaration known as comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme.
In this meeting or conference, almost all African states in the African Union unilaterally or unanimously agreed to adopt this declaration, as it was to their own benefit.

How much did we Swazis spend as a country in agriculture in this year’s budget speech? Statistics showed that we Swazis allocated a paltry E537 million to the need, or development of agriculture.

Projects

Which three projects are going to benefit from this little amount of money? They are as follow;  the Lower Usuthu Smallholder Irrigation Project (LUSIP) extension, the construction of five earth dams and lastly the construction of the fourth sugar mill.

Also farmers through their union known as the Swaziland National Agricultural Union, its president by the name of Jabulani Tsabedze, were shocked that the ministry of agriculture was far behind if compared with the 22 ministries.
If your priorities are confused, there is danger that your mind is also confused!
