WANDERERS MUST CRACK THE WHIP ON WAYWARD PLAYERS

Sir,

Despicable! This adjective is sufficient to describe the behaviour demonstrated by Manzini Wanderers temperamental player, Sicelo ‘Junior’ Simelane, during his team’s SwaziBank Cup semi-final match against rivals, Manzini Sundowns on Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium.

In front of throngs of football followers, including dignitaries who were enjoying every moment of the game, we watched in shock as the youngster attacked Referee Thulani Nsibandze, after the latter gave him matching orders for committing a second bookable offence.

And of course, had it not been for the fact that the incident unfolded just near the Weslians’ bench, where the technical bench intervened, the player would have probably laid his hands on the referee, much to the embarrassment of our football.

However, we are breathlessly waiting in anticipation for the punishment of such perpetrators, who have made our elite football look similar to ‘stokvel’ tournaments, where the rules of the game are not followed to the letter.

As someone who had been keenly following the 12th edition of the captivating SwaziBank Cup, my attention has been attracted by such unsportsmanship behaviour and Manzini Wanderers seem to be hard hit. For starters, I was there on Sunday March 8, 2015, when the very same Manzini Wanderers played Mbabane Midas City in the quarter-final of the same tournament and in awe, we watched  midfielder, Sandile ‘Theo’ Motsa giving the Gcina ‘Magiyane’ Dlamini-led technical bench, a piece of his mind after being substituted midway through the game.
That the player displayed his anger and frustration in such a manner, is enough for me to urge the team to crack the whip on the wayward players who are dragging the brand of the mighty Weslians.

We sincerely hope that the 2015 SwaziBank Cup finalists, will take the right step in uprooting such shenanigans, which have the potential of painting a bad image for the great team. No player should be bigger than the team.

Comfort Jele, Hawane
