ARE DRUNKS BETTER THAN GAYS?

Sir,

Homosexuality is a sensitive topic that most Christians prefer to avoid.
Others have used the `It’s none of my business mentality,’ in fear of robust discussions on the matter.

Some would even leave their churches to join other churches where the issue is not embraced.
In other churches, it is taboo to even talk about homosexuality.  Worse, in other countries homosexuals are being killed.
I really have a problem when we have to deal with homosexuality.

My problem is not on homosexuality but on how we treat and deal with the issue.
There is too much hatred when dealing with the issue. Before we go further, can anyone answer this question: is there a sin that is greater than others?

Why are others not treated the same as the homosexuals?
Are drunkards better than homosexuals? Are liars lesser sinners than homosexuals?
Homosexuality is not a sin that is ‘greater’ than other sins.

If you read 1 Corinthians 6: 9 – 11, you will notice that fornicators, idolaters, effeminates, revilers, swindlers, thieves, the covetous and drunkards, as much as homosexuals, will never inherit the Kingdom of God.
Therefore, none is better than the other.

Allow me to deal with this issue on two levels; whether it is a sin and whether should the church embrace homosexuals. Is homosexuality a sin? With a clear and sounding yes, I respond; it is a sin.

It is a fact not to be denied that the Bible condemns homosexuality; it is recorded as sin. However, the Bible also condemns other sins that are so uncontrolled and unchecked in our churches as equally as homosexuality.

Let us refer to the Bible on homosexuality; Genesis 19:1 – 11 tell of the Sodomite story, verse 5 says, “They called out to Lot and asked, Where are the men who came to stay with you tonight? Bring them out to us!”
The men of Sodom wanted to have sex with them (GNB). This was condemned.

It is also recorded in Lev 18:22 that, “You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.”
This is referring to sexual relationship; therefore this kind of sexual relation is condemned.

Also, in Romans 1:27, it is recorded that “In the same way the men give up natural sexual relations with women and burn with passion for each other. Men do shameful things with each other and as a result, they bring upon themselves the punishment they deserve for their wrongdoing.” It is clearly outlined that the Bible is against this practice.

I guess what was viewed as abomination in the first century will be abomination even in the 21st century, especially when it comes to moral laws.
Before you quickly claim that yes! However, that is the Old Testament dispensation, what about the New Testament dispensation?

And argue that if we are to follow these laws in the OT we need to follow them all. Yet we forget that we have civil, priestly and moral laws of which the latter two are no longer applicable in the New Testament while the moral laws are quoted in the New Testament.
Therefore, I believe that moral laws are based upon God’s character.

Therefore, we are to follow the moral laws in the Old Testament.
Secondly, people are born with negative tendencies and those tendencies will never be correct at any point.
Who qualifies to sit in your pews?

Is it sinners or righteous people or both?
As Christians, we recognise that we are all sinners, we all need God’s salvation, hence we say whoever claims to be without sin deceives himself.
Jesus welcomes all sinners.

What I know about Jesus he hated sin but also showed love to the sinner.
We also need to hate sin but love the sinner and this does not mean we are approving the act of homosexuality.

Our theology views the church as an entity available for all people and if we cannot welcome the marginalised we will be in conflict with what we believe and secondly we cannot use the Bible to discriminate against those who are sinners otherwise we must review our theology.

On the contrary, others will argue that homosexuality is mentioned less than 15 times in the Bible and that makes it to be of less importance in the Bible.

Does that mean we should not talk about it? Does that make it natural and correct?
Wanting homosexuality to be legally protected is like wanting drunkenness, coveting, stealing and killing to be made legal.

Yes, I vote and call for the protection of human life.  We cannot allow people to use hate speech and murder those who are homosexuals. If we do, we might as well allow all others who rail into sin to be killed. A call for tolerance, equality, love and justice should not be equated to a call for making homosexuality morally correct.

I am equally loved by God as He equally loves a person who is homosexual.  Whether gay or lesbian, we all need the love and warmth of God.
If we allow drunkards and fornicators to fill our churches and work positions, so should we with homosexuals. Shalom.

Rev, stop it. Just stop there. If you are not gay yourself then praise the Lord. Gays should also praise the Lord. Everyone should just praise the Lord. That's our primary purpose on earth, to praise the Lord, regardless of race, tribe, nationality, creed, denominational affiliation, sex, and indeed sexual orientation.

Honorable editor and honorable readers,

It is very confusing for me to read about the condemnation of Gays and Lesbians in our society. The bible is always quoted in regard to this issue. This just confirms the fact that there have always been men or women who have been attracted to others of the same sex. It is not only the bible! It is also the swear words that one heard as a child growing up in Swaziland. These words, which I and many , did not pay much attention to at that time just show that this has always been a reality. Like it or not.

You cannot wish every bad thing away. You just have to confront it. In this case, you just have to accept the fact that there is sometimes love that is felt between two people who just happen to be of the same sex.

Closing your eyes and spitting fire will not make this particular situation dissolve into thin air. It is THERE.

Thank you
